on illness benefit 4 months but doc said 6 months is my limit.....

I was diagnosed with PND 4 months ago. My doc told me I was able to to go on illness benefit for a max of 6 months........how can a doc determine wen ill be able to go back to work. I was let go the week I was diagnosed with PND.
I feel more stressed now to get a new job

Illness Benefit can be paid for up to 2 years, depending on the number of PRSI contributions made, so there is no "6 month" maximum.

A person who has paid 260 contributions (5 years in employment) can be paid for up to 2 years.
A person who has paid between 104 and 259 contributions (2 to 5 years in employment) can be paid for up to 1 year.
