Old CRT TV disposal.

I have an old box TV in perfect working order. Panasonic 28" screen. I cannot lift it, it is so heavy. Two people struggle.

I am happy to pay someone to take away. I don't want to list it on a free adverts site.

I live in the Blackrock area of Dublin.

Any recommendations.
 
If you cannot lift it then you need someone or two to call to your home. No more a problem than getting a reputable Adverts.ie buyer with 100% good reputation.

List if Free on Adverts.ie and select the buyer with 100% record and at least 20 trades. It's what I do.
 
Yes. This is the plan. Always worried though if someone calls and "injures" themselves carrying such a heavy item. Where do I stand in that case?

If I pay someone to take it away, (business transaction), is this transaction any different to giving something away for free?

I have three of these things, all in perfect working order also, sitting in various rooms of my home. Anyone know of a company that will call and take them away? I am Dublin based.
 
If you are buying a new TV and getting it delivered from the likes of Power City or DID (not Amazon), sometimes you can tick an option or pay small fee for old one to be taken away.
 
I use Adverts and find the people who respond to free ads are in the main wastes of space. Timewasters, messers -& ruder if I could say such things on AAM!

If you charge €10 or €20 (or anything) far more likely to get someone who is not a messer as they're spending their own cash on it and respect what it is theyre buying. Can you throw in a few dvds or a tv stand to make it more attractive to purchasers?

That depends on you - some people will say it's a steal, others will think it's a great offer

Yes, there are free WEEE centres but you have to get it there - so labour and travel cost come into the equation

How much do you want to be rid of the old TV?
 
Old CRT TVs are invaluable to fans of analogue broadcast/video systems (including old video game consoles), there is a market for good condition sets. That said, offering stuff for free attracts those that will request everything put up as soon as it is listed, so it's a tough balance. I guess the timing of the listing with old tech can be important.

Note: I found your listing, if you add 'CRT TV' to the text of the listing it will attract more interest. If I had the space right now I'd take it!

Thanks. I see that they sell on eBay for high prices.......Can you not use the early xbox, Nintendo type games on the newer Tv's?
 
HDTVs have an issue with understanding and upscaling old console outputs (which even ran at half the resolution of standard TV signals in the days of analogue TV). As a result, the output tends to be glitchy and there is significant lag in video processing, making many games from these bygone eras unplayable today.
On top of that HDTVs now have effectively gotten rid of SCART and other analogue inputs, so there is no way for the A/V output from these consoles to be sent to the screen. There are upscalers made to bridge the gap from the consoles to the TV but a free CRT (assuming someone has the space) is a much easier and cheaper alternative.
Even DVD players that people still have often need to be replaced when a new TV come in, albeit upscaling lag doesn't matter in these cases, it's just the lack of an A/V input on the TV.
