Does anyone know if AiB and BOI shares bought many years before the banking crisis, can still be traded today even given their low valuation at this stage. I had about 500 of each back in the day. I bought some more BOI last year and now wonder if my old holding is added to my new or have the old ones gone down the swanny?

Thanks.

In short, you shares are as tradable as ever but yes, they may not be worth selling once trading costs are taken into account. The AIB ones will get you €20 before expenses, the BOI around €150. There is no difference essentially between the BOI you have from back in the day and those you purchased more recently.

Many thanks Rob for your reply. Perhaps my children or grandchildren will have achieve a gain with these shares in the future!!

To help them with the tax calc you should try leave them with the base purchase price in aggregate, not x per share as its the purchase price in aggregate that matters for the CGT loss.
For example I bought 250 at 21 euro for my sons education fund, costing 5,250.

I now have one share worth €5 so if I see my share the loss is €5,245 (ignoring disposal costs) the actual number of shares is not what to focus on.
