Hi! I have an old 70s fireplace in a cottage I inheritied. It stretches the whole length of the chimney breast and there are some shelves on the side of it. It's sort of a white rectangular stone cladding surrounded by a dark varnished wooden frame. It's awful!
I put in wooden flooring as the carpets were manky and we're all asthmatic. I don't want to pull it out due to cost and also dust, mess etc. as we're all choking with the dust of renovations at the moment.
Does anyone have any ideas of what we can do with it? I was going to paint the wooden surround a kind of cream colour, which would be slightly darker than the walls of the room, but I don't know what I can do with the stone cladding. Can it be painted or anything done with it?
Thanks again.
