Hi all

Ive been offered a 2 bed in the eaton development in rathcoole but to tell the truth im just not happy with it . Dont know why but i just have a bad feeling about it. Question is am i allowed to refuse. The guy that showed me the apartment told me i had to take what was offered or i go to end of list but ive been told different by friends and family. Has anyone refused an offer before

Hi
This thread might be useful to you (search aam for "refusing affordable housing").

If it's South Dublin Co. Council, then if you reject this offer, you will go to the bottom of the list. It happened to me last summer.

My experience with South Dublin is that you have to turn down two offers before going to the end of the list. I would email them and ask them for clarification so you'll have it in writing. Then if you want to turn it down do so in writing and state that, as advised, you would like to wait for a second offer.

Best to get clarification though. It may have changed since I did it.
Property path have also opened up their criteria for the affordable housing initiative - if you can get a mortgage to cover the property the higher income bracket won't apply. They seem to have a good supply of properties in South Dublin. This would give you more options. Might be worth a try?

Hi Laura,

I was offered a property in citywest last august and I refused it. I was told that I had to go to the bottom of the list but it only took me 5-6 months to get to the top again. I have since been offerred a place in saggart, which I've accepted which is so much nicer than the first place so if you're not happy with it fully refuse it. I had been told at the time that if i wanted to refuse the saggart property the wait to get to the top of the list again was only 6 months and that was only in March.

Hope this helps....

Hey I was just wondering how long you have been on the list with SDCC before you got offered that property? Thanks R
