Anyone got any novel or interesting ideas for St. Patricks Weekend which are not the main festival or parade - for family. eg. somewhere to visit or see or do?

I'm sure I'm not alone in tiring of the mainstream events.

thanks,
Damo

Dont know where exactly you are Damo but I'd suggest the National Museum at Collins Barracks, Dublin.
We finally got round to visiting it and had a thoroughly interesting couple hours meandering through the exhibits. The building itself is interesting too. In the courtyard, there's a replica of a Viking Longboat on display for a short time.
Looking at the website, I see there's a family tour on March 16th and a special on St Patrick's celebrations on March 18th.
Oh yeah, and it's free entrance!

Are you sports fans?

What about the GAA club finals in Croke Park on Monday - hurling and football?

Thanks,

Done Collins barracks - agree that it's very impressive

GAA club finals in Croke Park - only me interested, not rest of the family.

Keep the ideas coming...

Off beat..... hmm how about a day out in mondelo go-karts or some thing like that, maybe paint balling

Remaining sober.. seems to be an offbeat thing to do judging by the last few St. Patrick's days I've witnessed...

There's always the option of a nice drive?
