Octavia Diesel. Used or New? What should the price diff be?

Hi,
I'm looking into purchasing an Octavia 1.9tdi Ambiente model 105bhp - 21975 euros new

I am looking to see how much better value a used one is and saw the above spec in a 2007 model for 19950 euros.

That's not much of a discount on new. How much do you think I could haggle for cash with no trade-in (as my old car is worth about 200 euros) ?

Personally I'd have expected you to get the Elegence for the price of the new Ambiente with no trade in. The 2007 car is ridiculously expensive, given that the road tax is going to be at the higher pre-July rate.

I didn't realise this.

I thought that the rate for all cars new and used had changed.

This would push me to look for a new car or a very substantial discount!

If the used octavia is going to be charged at the old rate from 2009 onwards then I'll definitely go for a new car.

I bought a new Toyota in March, list price at the time was €21,780 which included metallic, delivery, plates etc. Got it for €19,900 cash including full tank and floor mats. 07 ones on the forecourt at the time were this price but I suppose they too would have been negotiable for cash.

Presumably you would get this type of discount for cash on a new Octavia.
