Occupational Pensions

Hi

I have worked in a large company on a temporary part-time basis for the last 5 years. I've been told I can't avail of the occupational pension scheme because I'm not permanent and full-time. Is this true?

Strictly speaking there's no law that obliges an employer to provide you with access to an Occupational Pension Scheme no matter how long you've worked there.

They do have to provide you with access to a PRSA but they don't have to contribute to it.

However, if your colleagues are doing similar jobs on permanent contracts and are offered access to the Occupational Pension Scheme, you might have a valid claim of unfair treatment. Check with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment
