Occupational Injury Benefit and FIS

Hi,
A friend had a minor accident at work but it will keep him out of work for about 6 weeks. He has just been awarded Injury Benefit. He has been in receipt of FIS (€70 per week). Will the FIS payment continue while he is on Injury Benefit? He will not be paid by the employer during this period.

If he claims Illness Benefit for more than six weeks then the FIS payment will cease.

What would happen if he was unable to work for a little longer that 6 weeks and his FIS payment ceased? Would his FIS automatically resume when he returned to work or would a new application be neccessary?

It would be up to him to notify them if he was out for more than 6 weeks (if he doesn't, they'll pick it up when reviewing the claim at year end and he'll owe them money if he continues to claim it). I think he has to re-apply again when he resumes work but I'm not sure on that one. Maybe ringing them will help (the industrail action of not answering phones is now over)
