Obtaining Illness benefit certificate

Hi,

My fiance is currently off work following an accident and is receiving illness benefit.

The certificates for him to claim illness benefit are only given out at the hospital between 2 and 3 on Wednesday afternoons. He cannot drive himself (broken leg). I drive him to and from his hospital appointments but I can't bring him to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. A doctor at the hospital said I can collect the cert for him but again this is only on the Wednesday afternoon.

Does anyone know if there is an alternative way of getting this cert?

We have considered him getting a taxi but he requires a lot of care getting in and out of a car so I don't think a taxi would be suitable.

We're going to phone our local health centre as they have been in contact to offer assistance but I don't know if this is part of their role.

Thanks, Triona

I would imagine that the Hospital have send a report to your fiances GP outlining the details of the injury. Your Doctor as far as I'm aware is capable of issuing the SW Cert (altough some I believe charge a nominal fee for it). I would say contact his GP and see can they help,

Thanks for the reply Cashstrapped. Our GP is issuing the certs for him. We can collect two at the surgery this morning.

Thanks for your help, Triona
