Obtaining bank statements after 7 years from a closed bank account

Hi all

I was hoping that someone can advise me if there is a way to get statements from a bank after the 7 year mark, if the account has since been closed.
The bank has said no, but I am hopeful someone may know if records are still kept, either in hard copy or mircofiche.
I really need to get proof of a particular transaction.

All I can tell you is that, a few years ago it didn't take the banks long to find the banking transactions of customers when revenue were looking for them in regards to undeclared bank ac's that hadn't dirt paid. Lots of those bank ac's were a hell of a lot older than 7 years, so I'm certain they have them. Only thing is, they may not, "by law", have to give them to you. Hope that helps in some way.

thanks very much - yes this is what I'm wondering about - it seems unless they have to 'by law' they wont.
