NYC USA sales tax question; can that tax be claimed back?

I was recently in NYC and when i was paying my hotel bill i noticed that the tax was quite a lot. I was wondering if that tax can be claimed back?

yes how selfish of me.......i did give it a whole day! :rolleyes:

the reason i ask is that i heard of someone who claimed tax back on a hotel bill from a visit to Canada. I thought there might be a similar procedure with the states.

but if you say 'no' eurofan, thats good enough for me:D
 
In Canada you can claim back the GST (federal tax)on purchases over Can$200 but you can't get the provincial taxes back.

In the US you can't get any of it back. The only way not to pay it is to order stuff interstate by mail order.
