Hi All,

I'm a year 3 full time nursing student working full time (3days/week night only), I earn #32000, my husband earn #26000 and we've got 2 kids and a mortgage which my husband pays for at the end of the month.

Since nursing students are require to be on a full time placement (without pay) all through their year 3 & 4. Due to the stress involved I will not be able to work and my husband income will not be able to sustain us in the family.

My question is this:will i be entitled to a social welfare payment? I and my husband have been on continuous employment for the past 4 yrs and have never apply for social welfare except the child benefit.

Any enlightenment will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Impega. Nursing students are paid for their rostered year. Your information that they are not paid is incorrect.

Thanks for the correction,Nursing students only get paid in year 4 (final year).

I'm confused about the nature of your query. If you are a 3rd year nursing student, how can you also be working full time and earning 32,000 ?

Hi Emiso,
I do work on weekend nights only i.e friday nights till sunday,I had to do this to raise funds for my school fees (Non EU). and it's 12hrs per shift i.e 36hrs per week.I understand that if you're working more than 30hrs in a week it is full time.
