Can't find this on their website .. just wondering if anyone knows .. If I sign up for NTL digital I presume I have to sign a contract for a fixed period ? .. Do I presume right ? - is it 12 months ?

12

yep, its 12 months. I signed up 3-4 months ago and rang asked that very question.

Re: 12

We moved from an area that had NTL Digital to an area where it was not available 6 months into a 12 month contract, and were allowed to cancel the contract without penalty. 6 months later they still haven't bothered to collect the digibox!

Re: 12

Cheers thanks for that guys ... anyone care to venture an opinion of the relative merits of it vs. Sky Digital

I've heard that the quality/choice on Sky is better .. downsides are it's more expensive and you have the ITV/Ch4 issue (I know there are ways round this but they're not exactly ideal either)

Also I spent ages burying the cables nicely in my sitting room before painting/re-plastering so would be rather annoying if I had a whole load of new cables for Sky that weren't hidden !

Re: 12

I'd tend to go for Sky (having used both in the past). I reckon the main drawbacks with Sky are as follows:
1. The need to have a dish installed
2. Not only do you not have ITV/Ch4, but I don't think you get Setanta? (having said that most channels should become available eventually)

I think NTL has a crappy remote, it takes them longer to get new channels online (they only added Sky Sports Extra recently), and at some times, the service can be patchy. I also think that the picture quality is slightly better on Sky.

There are loads more channels on Sky, whether you need or want them is another matter (much better selection of music channels). Unfortunately we can no longer get either service, as we live in an apartment (outside NTL cable catchment area, MMDS is far too expensive, and requires an aerial, and Sky requires the dish-we are not permitted aerials or dishes)

I don't think the customer service of either is anything to write home about, but NTL has improved slightly in recent times.

This is only my 2 cents, no doubt others may disagree!
