NPPR charge and the new property tax

Hi all,

My query relates to the NPPR charge due this month (www.nppr.ie) and the proposed new property tax: ([broken link removed])

If I pay the yearly 200 euro NPPR charge now, and the new property tax arrives in January 2012, is this not double taxation? I don't see why I am paying the NPPR charge until the middle of 2012 and should then be expected to fork out for the new tax in January on the same property. I do not expect to dump it on my tenants.

I can't see any relevant info in the NPPR FAQ.

Does anyone have a view on this? The NPPR charge is due this month I believe, so it would be nice to understand how these taxes overlap.

Thanks

There is no property tax at the moment other than the NPPR. A report in the paper means nothing.

Also, there are numerous of examples already of what you call "double taxation".

Income Tax and USC
VAT and VRT
Excise Duty and VAT

Etc.

NNPR tax and new property tax

Does anyone know if the property tax of 100 euro is paid on top of the 200 euro NNPR tax on second homes?

.. I'm guessing yes.

You pay the NPPR for owning the 2nd home, then €100 property tax on that property.

The new charge is in addition to the NPPR - which was in addition to the PRTB, which was in addition to income tax....Double Tax??? We'd be lucky if it was only double.
