Notice of leaving

Hi, Does anybody know how much notice I have to give my employer if I want to leave? I am working there less than a year, and I am still under probation.
Thanks

Depends on your own terms and conditions, but when someone is under probation I think either side can terminate employment without notice.

If I wanted to leave I guess I would give 2 weeks to a month's notice.

Hi

Not sure why, but I've a funny feeling a week is sufficient, if you are still on probation. Courtesy generally tends to suggest 1 months' notice in writting should be given, but hey, don't let that loose you your new job either

If your really anxious to leave the existing job, just tell them your going to work for a competitor, many employers will throw you out that day, for fear you'll take any valuable information or custom with you etc

Good luck with the move

the statutory minimum is one week, unless your contract specifies more.

Cool, thanks for that. I was thinking of giving 2 weeks notice. As far as I know, my contract does state one month, but i assumed that being under probaation, this means that you do not have to give anymore than a week. In theory, being under probation means that your employer can get rid of you at any time, so the same has to be given by you to them
