Hi, I have €16,000 in a northern rock demand online account. I'm wondering do any of you know how secure this is? I'm assuming it might be a little more secure than an Irish deposit account but maybe I'm wrong. The rate of interest isn't great at 2.5% so I'd like to move the money if there a bank that would be more secure and offer a better rate of interest. I'd be willing to put some of it in for a fixed term of a year or two. If anyone could offer any advice or recomendations i would really appreciate it.

You can get 3.5% in Ulster for a 1 year term deposit.

Ulster are largely owned by the UK government, NR are owned by the UK government. Hence, they have similar risk profiles.
