North South East West Aspect

This is a sortof location question.

What is considered the best in the following dual aspects in relation to apartments:

East/West - sitting room East, bedrooms West
East/West - sitting room West, bedrooms East
North/South - sitting room south, bedrooms north
North/South - sitting room north, bedrooms south

East/West - sitting room West, bedrooms East
or
North/South - sitting room south, bedrooms north

You live in the Sitting Room - so it's best to get sun during the day (south).

You get evening sun from the west - so that is also fairly good.

East light is generally recommended for bedrooms - (sun in the morning as you wake up).

There is no 'right' answer to that, especially in an apartment situation. One thing is though, is there a balcony attached to the apartment? If so, definitely have the balcony on the south, or south-west facing, wall.

Otherwise, it's nice to have the bedrooms on the east and sitting room to the west, thus getting the most possible light into the apartment while you are actually in it.

There was an article about this in last weeks Irish Times Property supplement:
