Non-global Irish beer

I am heading over to some friends in the US shortly and I asked them if they wanted anything brought over. They replied that they wouldn't mind some hard-to-get Irish beers.

Last time I was over there I checked out the beer aisle (can you call something which is almost a kilometer long an aisle ?) in their local Target and I think there was more small-brand Irish beer there than I even knew existed.

So, I'm trying to think of something I can find in or around Dublin which does not have some sort of global licensing arrangement. I guess it would be the equivalent of a micro-brewery. I know Messers Maguires and the Porterhouse do their own stuff, but does it come in cans/bottles or just draught ? Or is there stuff I can get in the larger off-licenses that might fit the bill ?

Thanks,

z

I can personally (*hic*) recommend the beers from the Carlow Brewing Company you can find them in some off-licences in Dublin (I know that I have seen them in one in Ranelagh) and in some Superquinn shops too.
