Hi I have a Sanyo TV ( 8 years old) and there is a problem with the picture... The feeds/ ( NTL ) seem to be fine ie can here the programmes but all that is on the screen is a thin blue line - rest of screen is black. Does this mean that the "tube" is gone. Is it worth fixing or would it be cheaper to buy a new one. Its the TV in Kids Playroom so has taken a bit of bashing

It could be a few things, but without looking it's hard to know, the vertical sweep/alignment could be just gone,it could simply be a few cap's and resistors..or a dry joint(crack in the solder-10 Second fix).again hard to say but ring a repair guy near you and explain and ask if it's worth fixing etc...if he has a look ask if there's a charge...the good thing is TVs are pretty cheap at the minute because of all the LCD/Plasma stuff

The fault is called vertical collapse, as penny pincher says it could be just a dry joint but the repair shops will charge 30 euro upwards just to take the back off the TV, check the buy and sell, there are many recent models available for half nothing as so many people have upgraded to LCD / Plasma. I have never paid for a TV as people are always upgrading and throwing them out.
