No butter allowed on Popcorn?

Hi guys

Can anyone explain why cinemas are not doing butter for popcorn anymore? I know Blanchardstown UCI still is but I think Liffey Valley, Santry, navan cinemas have now stopped doing it - buttery popcorn is the only reason I bothered going to cinema
 
I heard the butter dripping from the pop corn causes that horrible smell and also causes the carpet to rot.
 
I'm pretty sure that the gunk they (use to?) put on popcorn in cinemas is not actually butter. Certainly doesn't taste like it.
 
Yep I'm pretty sure it wasn't butter as well but I have to say I did like it - popcorn just doesn't taste the same anymore
 
so that people do not wipe their fingers on the seats once they are finished...
 
There were a couple of 'incidents' at a cinema where people slipped on the floor which had butter on it and made a claim against the particular cinema, going back about 18 months ago.
