Newly Married, New tax status

I got married last August and want to know how I go about claiming different tax status for the year ahead, how do I inform the tax office of our new status and will it make much difference? I earn about 25k pa and my wife around 50k.

There are several existing threads on married taxation, what it entails, how/when to inform Revenue, what the options are etc. and there is (or was on the old site) a FAQ on the Revenue website.
