Hi - we are thinking of moving to Newcastle / Athgoe area. Just wondering if anyone has any info /advice on what the area is like. We have young children so would have to think about school, playmates, transport etc etc. Any info is much appreciated. Many thanks

Grew up in Newcastle and went to the local school St. Finian's as a child myself. Have not moved too far away now. Have to say Newcastle is a lovely village on the outskirts of town. The school still has a country feel to it, is well run with a really approachable principal who is really into sports and extra activities for kids etc. The village has a recently refurbished hall which offers a lot of activites. Two shops serve the village. There are lovely walks from the village up to Athogoe and down to Lyons Estate towards Ardclough - Celbridge. There is a rail connection from Hazelhatch which is about 10 minutes in the car away. Very busy at peak times. Only drawback is getting a bus into town which although run on time take a long time to get into town. Count on an hour sometimes. Newcastle still has a community feel about it which is nice. As you know there is a lot of new housing planned for the area but hopefully the area will retain its community feel. As regards pubs the nicer extablishment in the village was burnt idown a fire but there is planning permission to build on the site.

Hi there

Can anyone expand a little more about the planned new houses in the Newcastle area??

cheers

Many thanks all. I'll have a look at the previous thread as well. Thanks for your help.
