New York with a teenager

Could anyone gives me some ideas of where to bring a 16 year old out to at night time in New York, He is into music and would like to go to some local gigs, that would be his 1st choice,not sure if his age would allow him achieve that,but any suggestions of any other entertainments or places of interest at evening or nightime would be appreciated.Is there a museum of rock or modern music in n.y.?

The hard rock cafe do live gigs and would be suitable for his age group.

You could do some of your sightseeing at night. We brouhgt our now 15yr old there 3 times and he was never bored.

There is a huge virgin megastore in Times Square that opens late if he's into music.
