Hi, am heading to New York for the first week of September and am looking for some recommendations for a nice fancy restaurant for dinner on one particular night... somewhere with an extensive tastign menu maybe or somewhere with lots of different courses.Thanks.

The Marriott Marquis has a quite fancy restaurant on the top floor that revolves, very pricey though http://www.opentable.com/rest_profile.aspx?rid=1542

I'd second that recommendation...the food is good and the lift up there is part of the experience too.

Fiamma Osteria. Had a starter here of roasted pork belly which is and was the nicest dish I've ever had in a resto. The rest of the meal was great too!

is a great starting-off point for these difficult decisions. Their restaurant guides (where the ratings are done by readers) have long been a fantastic source of information for travellers. I've made a number of restaurant choices in NY purely on the basis of a Zagat rating and have never been disappointed.

Been to 21 Club and would recommend it, the menu is online as well to give you a flavour of whats on offer. They do have a tasting menu, but all of the party need to partake when ordering....
It was an experience I really enjoyed, and I'd recommend staying after the meal and having a few drinks / cocktails at the fire.

Have to recommend Aureole for this...went there whilst on honeymoon 2 years ago. Jacket & tie req'd. Surf & Turf to die for - Duck with massive scallops on top.
