New Walls

couple of questions, will be ringing around looking for quotes shortly from painters but want to know what is involved before I approach them.

So new walls - do I need to use a primer before painting? If so what would I be looking to buy? Hoping to get all materials myself, so I am not done so to speak!

If I use a primer do I then not need an undercoat?

I am also hoping to use Farrow and Ball paint as having read up on it and researched somewhat think it would be a quality finish. I will be keeping all rooms in the house neutral - creamy colour - can introduce other colours down the road if I decide to. Anyone used Farrow and Ball? Any advantages / disadvantages? Any creamy Farrow and Ball colour - giving a rich yet airy feel recommended by anyone?

And then I guess any other valuable information anyone has to get me set for speaking to painters/decorators?

Thanks in advance!

Farrow and Ball is a premier paint product, often used in conservation work and other high quality decor jobs. It is stocked by MRCB a paintshop in near Christchurch.
