New Mortgage Protection Policy

folks,

i have had mortgage for ~6 years, never had mortgage protection. But now with my job perhaps under threat in under a year, i am trying to think ahead - i just visited BOI office that is located in my work, they said they could not sort me with a new policy as i never took it out in the begining of the mortgage. (Mortgage is with them obviously).

So what options do i have? I have looked up a few online brokers, mortgagepaymentprotection.ireland and such, but i am wondering if it looks fishy that i am taking it out now as opposed to when i bought my mortgage? Are there any stipulations to taking it out now? Like cannot claim until 1 year with them or anything? What is reasonable price for this? Can someone recommened a reputable place to go for this?

As you have a suspicion that your job in under threat then you will have to disclose this to any prospective insurer and it is unlikely you will get mortgage repayment protection beacuse of this.

Most companies offering such insurance have left the market due to all the recent claims.

I don't know if it is a case of under threat exactly, just with friends and family around me getting layed off etc, i guess i worry about it. I mean,this place could be good for years yet, but of course, could drop in a year. I certainly haven't been told that we are under threat - no notice etc.
