Recently had new internal pine doors fitted and varnished. Frame already there. Paid €2,300 for everything including locks. However, marks are now very difficult to get off doors. I have two young children so they get very marked. Builder friend of mine said the should have been sanded and lacqured, not varnished. The doors weren't sanded. The guy who did them for me was the son-in-law of my cleaner. Asked him to come back and see if there was anything else he could put on them that would make them easier to clean, and if he didn't come back I couldn't offer him other jobs, e.g. putting in ensuite, converting garage. This p.m. heard that he is not going to come back to do anything with the doors and is really annoyed that I felt there was anything wrong with his word. Question: should it be difficult to get marks off pine doors? Shouuld the doors have been sanded and lacqured, rather than varnished? And, is €2,300 expensive for this work. Thanks.
