New house - want to keep existing number

I'm moving house in the near future (Milltown to Dundrum) and would like to keep my existing number.

Does anyone know whether this is possible and, if so, what restrictions might apply.

I tried phoning Eircom but.............
 
According to [broken link removed] you can take your number with you and seem to suggest that the new provider will take care of the transfer.

AFAIK ..

When I moved house 5 years ago, a distance of approx. 3 miles I was not allowed to keep my number as the old and new addresses were served by different exchanges.

Maybe things have changed since then, but, then again, it's still eircom ...
 
I think that the number portability stuff only came in within the last five years.
 
Oops - sorry - the stuff above seems to be more about switching providers rather than moving house!
