What is the timeline when buying a new house, do the steps involved generally come in this order?

1) builder tells you that the house is finished
2) letter of completion sent to solicitor
3) Sign Contract
4) Do snag list
5) Agree snag is complete
6) Close sale & get keys

can any one advise on time line between notice of completion and getting keys, also should we be able to have access to house between signing contracts and completion to measure for flooring etc

mf1 - I wouldn't advise anyone to sign contacts before arranging their mortgage!

While its ok to book a house and pay a deposit subject to contract & loan approval, you shouldn't enter a legally binding contact befor having your mortgage arranged.
