I seem to recall in last years budget the Government introduced an incentive whereby a company engaging a new hire during 2010 would not have to pay employers prsi.

The new hire I am thinking of would be at Director level within the small company but will not have a shareholding, my thinking is that this individual's new employer should register him with Class A prsi rather than Class S1, the key difference being that benefits would acrue to the new hire after 13 weeks contributions on Class A that would not on class S1 which could be important to the individual in the event it did not work out, any thoughts ?

Whether an individual is on class A or class S depends on whether the individual is considered an employee or self employed. Generally, a director with no shareholding should be on class A.

Agreed but will that new hire be on class A as a new hire in 2010 without the company making contributions reflecting class A ?, ( re last budget changes for new hires in 2010 ? )
