New Fireplace - installation

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my entire fire place. I've spoken to a number of different places and they all stock quite similair products which are sourced from the UK.

If may source directly the different elements mantel, insert, hearth, etc. I know there are many influencing factors but I'm just looking to know if there is someone who could do the installation. Possibly including a gas fire?

So really I'm after someone to do the services element? If gas is chosen they would need to be certified for this. Also, any views on how this may cost.

This is just the start and an attempt to save cash not convinced that this is a possible option but it may be worth a try or toe in the water.

Thanks,
MAJJ

Hi Majj

You don't say what part of the country you're in ...

I had a fireplace installed recently - maple mantel, cast iron insert, new fireback and granite hearth for €1,5k.

It's a regular open fire, not gas and was expertly installed by [broken link removed]. in Arklow, Co. Wicklow. They also removed and disposed of the old fireplace free of charge.

Maybe they have other branches? I don't know, but have a look at their site anyway.

Hi Delgirl,

Thanks for the response. I am based in Dublin 16 and I've already got a number of quotes Lamartine, Ballymount FP etc - still unsure on what option let alone vendor were going for.

It's good to see some example and feedback but I was wondering if anyone had info on the services element.

Cheers,
MAJJ

Hi Majj

Just doing the same myself. Have bought the mantle, hearth etc and they will install for 230 euro. I'm based in Galway. The gas part will have to be done by a registered gas installer. You can get the fireplace installed first and the gas afterwards as long as you have the gas pipe in place.

Hi Gallantman,

Thanks for your response but I'm a little unclear on what you mean.
When you say your doing the same. In which may is it similair i.e have you bought the components and separately sourced someone that will install the lot? I realise that it's likely that a different person will need to the gas element.

Thanks

Majj,

We finally picked the fireplace she liked - it was one we saw in a few shops in the west. My wife researched it on the web and would have been able to purchaes the bits separetly but with shipping, sterling etc it was difficult to work out if we would save anything. In the end we ordered from a shop in Mayo so that we could get in in before Xmas but we didn't get the floor down in time.

The shop will install it for 230 euro but I may try to get someone locally to install. The guy in the shop described what I had to do to install - it shounds OK but as we are paying a bit for the fireplace I won't try to install myself in case I damage it.

I think 230 is a bit much based on whats involved so a good handyman might be able to sort it out. Hope this helps.

Gallant, could I ask where you sourced in Mayo and was it good price-wise. You can PM me if you wish.
