New entrant to civil/public service?

Hi,
I started a job a few months ago for a govt dept.
I previously worked for a local authority for a year (about 10 years ago)
Am i considered a 'new entrant' or not (for the purposes of pension, leave etc).

You should check with your personell section.

As fas as I know you can transfer your pension entitlements from the local authourity into the civil service scheme. There are straightforward rules and forms to be filled in.

Previous service should be taken into account for annual leave. Again there are rules on this. Personell will be able to walk you through the calculations.

Salary, well, that's a different story. All people taking up a position are being put on teh bottom point of your scale as far as I know, regardless of years worked in teh public service elsewhere. You can put in a claim, with the help of your union, but it'll probably sit on a desk somewhere for a very long time.
Would be interested in hearing how you get on with that sort of thing, as the other half is in the very same position.

I think the maximum gap between serving in the public service previously and taking up a new position must be six months or less so in your case you would be a new entrant in terms of the salary scale (10% and minimum point)

You will be considered as a new entrant to the Civil Service and, as dictated by the Department of Public Expenditure, start at the first point of your salary scale and at the standard leave level.

You should however make enquiries with regard to the one year of pension that you have accruing from the other organisation you worked for.
