Anybody priced these or any experience with them?

Looks v. convenient but guess would eat battery and likely expensive. Any guess as to how long until the cheapo brands start doing them??

I presume they will still allow for editing of the footage - there's always 10%+ of crap that you dont want to keep.

I just bought a Mini-DV camcorder ([broken link removed]) on (€700) and plan to edit the footage on my PC and then archive back to tape and also onto "regular" DVD-R.

I don't think that editing on the camcorder is that practical, for me, anyway.

And Mini-DV tapes are very cheap.

Am I right in thinking that you are limited to 30 minutes of footage per blank DVD on these camcorders?

Yes, unless you use a lower quality setting.

Good review of Sony's top end DCR-DVD403 DVD recorder on camcorderinfo.com.

Note that they are less impressed with cheaper models (costing less than a grand) - they thought that MiniDV offered better quality recording on cheaper models.
