I am thinking from changing my BOI mastercard card for another type. Does anyone know of any good offers at the moment?

Also am I correct in saying that I would need cancel my card prior to April 1st next year and apply for the new card after this date?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.....
 
Amex Blue (thru BOI actually) give a 1% cashback but a lot of retailers don't accept it. Have you tried the new Barclaycard Ireland as they appear to be moving in here now and could be a good bet.
Second part of your question is correct but keep an eye on the budget next month in case the actual fee year changes.

I think this is an overstatement. Some smaller, independent outlets don't accept Amex. I wouldn't have Amex as my only card, but it is definitely my preferred card, thanks to the 1% cashback.
 
Thanks for your replies I think I may go with the Tesco Credit card I read about on one of the other posts and get the points...

Not one to harp too long on this but I disagree.
Air lingus and Ryanair don't accept it and I recall that some utility bills cannot be paid using it. Was it ESB, gas and the likes ? Dublin City Council don't accept it for waste charges. The point is (which we both agree on) that it could not be used exclusively so would not be runner in the case above.

Not true - Aerlingus.com offers me Visa, MC, Amex, Diners, Laser & Universal Air Travel card this morning.
I recall that some utility bills cannot be paid using it.

Some can & some can't. I have O2 & Dublin Gas paid by Amex at present. I don't think Eircom or ESB accept it today.
The point is (which we both agree on) that it could not be used exclusively

I'd leave that decision to the original poster, once he/she is in full possession of the facts.
 
Only problem with Tesco is they don't seem to have online banking. I find it very useful to be able to check for transactions on your CC as they happen rather than have to wait a month. If I buy something on the internet I would check a day or 2 later to verify the transaction.

Just my 2c but I'm considering moving myself - just been charged €50 because I was a few days late with the payment.
 
I've seen a load of MBNA ads on the net advertising their Gold Card. 10.9% Sounds good!!
 
got a leaflet about ulster bank interest free for 9 mths and if you spend €5000 they will waive your stamp duty they would hardly include transferring an old balance of this amount??? and still waive the stamp duty

No offence but if you are transferring an outstanding balance in order to avail of a low rate and are then thinking of spending €5K just to avoid an annual sramp duty charge of €40 then I wonder if you might need a serious reality check on your financial situation?

The Best Buys is not up to date in this area.

MBNA do offer the 10.9 rate on new Gold cards but you may have to ask for this rate.

They can offer this rate to existing business but they don't do it automatically, you have to ring up and ask for it and you may have to switch product e.g. from the Platinum (which bizarrely has a higher rate) to the 10.9% APR Gold.
 
Tesco offer a freephone no. and one may check their balance over phone along with most recent purchase.I think it really opens the doors re chopping and changing what with elimination of 40 euro charge for every card one holds in the year as oppossed to one off yearly charge.
 
What does FX charge mean in relation to the credit card charges??
