New computer logging me out - driving me nuts!

My new computer seems to be set in such a way as to to automatically log me of any site (including this one) after an unreasonably short time. It's driving me nuts as a i have to copy any message I want to post, re-log in and then paste.

It's driving me nuts. Anyone know how to change the settings?

What sort of internet connection (e.g. a home broadband connection or a work one possibly connecting through a proxy server)? What browse (if IE try Firefox and see if the problem persists - just to see if it's browser specific)?

it's a home broadband connection using Internet explorer.

May I ask what firefox is and how I might use it?
