Hi,

Bought a brand new charger on ebay last week, arrived yesterday and plugged it in to my sony vaio. Got a brief flash f lights, then the entire thing died. Thought it might be the charger, so checked to see if it was ok, measured the voltage, expecting to see 19.5v, but measured a whopping 30v on it (it varied in output from 21 up to 31v).

Anyway, I am 99% sure it has blown my laptop, and have been on to the seller, who has offered a refund :-( I am after more, including repair/replacementof laptop.

Seller has said send the charger back to him, and he will get his insurance company to evaluate and see if it caused the damage befoer deciding what to do.

Any advice here, I am reluctant to let go of the offending item, so told him no, that I would send both charger andlaptop to an independent repair centre for evaluation and report, but he has not agreed to this.

Regards,
Eamon

Seller will just tell you his 'insurance company' says the charger is fine. Insurance companies don't do evaluations of electronic items. So sounds like he's trying to fob you off.

One of the problems with eBay is the limited comeback you have when things go wrong and the hoops you have to jump through. Was it a business seller or a private seller?

You only have a limited time to file a claim against the seller. So just make sure you don't miss out.
