Hi, I'm in the process of buying a new BMW but its my first time buying a new car and I'm rubbish at haggling with the price. The dealer offered me a very low price for my trade in, even though its only 2 years old. Any advise on how to get the best out of these dealers? Thanks.

A colleague of mine is a BMW fan and tells me that even though dealers promise that BMWs hold their value well when it comes to trading in they generally offer low trade in values. Perhaps you should try selling your car yourself and see if you make more that way before buying the new/replacement one? At the very least check what similar cars to your own are fetching on the open market. Express lots of interest in the new car but make it clear that a "fair" trade in value on your existing one is a deal breaker. Oh - and shop around.

Head over to the bmw club ireland website....(http://www.bmwcarclubireland.com/)

someone there should give you a good idea of the cash discount/trade in allowance...

What year is the BMW. What model? What mileage? What extras?

What car have you got? Condition? Mileage etc...? What's he offering?

Why not buy a year old car rather than brand new.
The moment you take it out of the forecourt your car has dropped in price.
The bigger the car, the worse the brand then the bigger the drop in value.
That applies to all cars unless it collectible like Ferrari or something.
It could be worse you could be buying an Alfa or Fiat I guess.
