Neighbours Extension

I am hoping for some opinions. I am looking at a house which has everything I like, so ticks all the boxes i.e. size & location. The issue I have is with the house next door. The front garden is overgrown and it has an ugly flat roof extension out the back that you can see from 'my' houses back windows.

Would this put you off the house? Anyone in a similar situation?

It would put me off. The house next door sounds rented. It could also have noisy tenants etc that keep you up all night etc. Then again it might not. But it is a risk.

Would it be strange to contact the neighbours on the other side of the house to ask them if they have ever had issues or concerns with the house in question?

If I were you I'd walk away. It's annoying you now, when the pleasure of your new house wears off, it'll annoy you more. If this house is let, it's a sad fact that in Ireland , there is little that owner occupiers adjoining such properties can do if the property is not maintained.
I bought a house one time, a house that I loved and I ignored my concerns about one aspect of the property. I eventually sold because as time went on, this became more and more annoying .

I have to say, it would put me off, and I have moved because of the number of rented houses in my Estate (ended up with about 4 owner occupiers out of approx. 20 houses) Also, if I were buying again in the future, I would not buy a house where next door looked scruffy (rented or not)

Do you feel that the house is rented, or could it just be that it is someone has no interest/or is not able to look after the garden (perhaps elderly) People years ago had a habit of building "hacienda" type horrible extensions and perhaps this is just a throwback to this ?

Have you asked the Estate Agent about who lives next door. You could even be very direct and say, next door looks a bit unkempt, what is the situation?

On further investigation the address is listed as a business. I drove by today and there was a Merc in the driveway with all the blinds down

The houses are 35 years old so the extension may well be a throwback from back in the day.
