Hi

Forgot to check the wattage this morning and as I shop where I work (half an hour drive from my home, which is isolated) I was hoping to buy something today before I go home rather than wait until tomorrow.

Is it likely that e.g. 90% of the time X wattage is used and are all these cylindrical halogen bulbs the same size - is it worth risking getting one?

They come in 150W, 300W and 500W. The 300W and 500W are the same size, the 150W is smaller. Most common is the 500W offering.

Cheers - 500W sounds familiar.

When you say most common - more than 50% of the time would you say?

IMHO I would advise getting the 300W lamp.
As already stated it is the same size as the 500W lamp but is cheaper to
operate and unless you are lighting a very large area you will not notice
the drop in illumination.

If the garden is small, a 150W lamp is perfectly sufficient, especially if it's just for security as a thief looking up at a 150W lamp shining down on him will not really know if they are lit up like a xmas tree or not. A bright light is a bright light sort of thing and if it activates a lot, a 150W lamp is obviously much better from an energy point of view, as well as being a couple of quid cheaper to buy. I think also that 150W filament tubes (I don't think they call them bulbs!) last longer than 500W ones.

Thanks all for replies - I'll maybe chance a 300W if the 150W "tube" (;)) isn't going to be the same size.
