Need Help with English Cars

Out of those listed, the Accord easily. Better to drive, more reliable & better looking IMO.

Disagree - Passat miles ahead of the rest, Having driven all the above I suggest you do the same and you will see for yourself. Just go into relative dealerships and find similiar models to test drive.

The Passat. The Golf / Jetta are in a lower league than the Passat. The Accord would be my second choice, but a poor second IMHO.

Pay for it on a credit card that does not charge for foriegn exchange, Nationwide in England as you get the commercial exchange rate that is higher than the bank exchange rates and then pay it off with your bank account.

You could also balance transfer it to interest free card and make interst on your cash and pay it off at the end of the year/interest free period.

Ok well I think you can forget about the Jetta, it would definitely be the one I'd be scratching off the list first of all.

Reliability shouldn't really be an issue as the major of Honda and Volkswagen cars are very reliable.

I followed the link but didn't see any spec of the cars. Personally I'd be going or the Golf or Passat. It'd really be a personal choice. What type of money are you looking at spending? What about something like a Golf GT Diesel 170BHP or even going up to the GTi? There serious cars and definitely cars you'd love every time you sit into them.

Of course there's the R32.....

Accord for style, reliability, value and specification.
Passat/Golf/Jetta for badge.

End of.

Unless you really want to get to know the receptionist in the VW garage better :)

Edit: I don't know why people think a VW badge means anything these days, but they do. Hondas are far more reliable and the Accord is hugely specced.

Mondeo is the best car in that class though. Buying a lightly used one will be decent value too.

Top Ten Most Reliable Used Cars according to Warranty Direct [broken link removed] The Accord comes out at no. one. Japs seem to win the show.

VW are overpriced, buy a Skoda, VW shell Audi controls and half the price. VW, BMW and Mercedes are living on their reputations of 10 years ago. They are poor in the JD power customer satisfaction survey, Jap cars are king with Lexus being top dog.

So the Volvo S40 is the most reliable mainstream make of European car according to above link. Above VW, BMW, Audi et al

In the process of getting rid of a VW and would not buy another ( in spite of having owned 5 previous to this one).

Lovely cars to drive but the electrical issues would break your heart. I fail to see why this should be, given that the same group can successfully produce Audis and Seats without the same gremlins.
