I've just been told by my mechanic that the shocks requiring replacement by the NCT are perfectly fine. Still had to pay a couple of hundred euro to replace them becuase that's th way it works. He says their machines sometimes become inaccurate and will send several people off with fails and expensive repairs for prefectly functioning compenents so you get a spate of people requiring, say, new shocks.
Any truth to this? Is there any independent QC for the NCT or is everyone happy as long as it keeps generating revenue?
If there is no QC woudn't it be fun if a journo did an investigation of this? Call a few good mechanics for tip-offs when they get an obvious false positive, add some dodgy components to test for true positives and false negatives....
