NCT and twisted chassis?

Friend of mine bought a secondhand car with valid NCT. Turned out the car had been an insurance write off and chassis is twisted and off by about 2.5 inches! Mystery is: how could such a car have passed the NCT? He has confirmed that the NCT was carried out after the accident and repair.

NCT is not the be all and end all test people think it is.

If the brakes are balanced and the suspension is in balance and of course you have the irsih county of top of the reg you are good.

The was a mini on here that had been shockingly badly repaired but looked cosmetically ok from a few paces, I am pretty sure it had a valid NCT.

Sorry for the trouble but seems an AA or good mechanic once over is the only way to reduce the chances of a lemon.
