Motor NCT and motor insurance.

We are aware of the current NCT mess because of equipment problems.

What is concerning me is the issue of what motor insurers are doing where their client cannot get the NCT test complete before renewal date.
I refer to those instances where delay is due to NCT delays as distinct from anything the motorist has failed to do.
[EDIT P.S. The problem could crop up pre-renewal as well]
Some motor insurance policies effectively prescribe that you must have a current valid NCT on the car or your cover is invalidated.
Some policies don't seem to be that strictly worded.

Here is the opening paragraph of Insurance Ireland's position ;

QUOTE FROM INSURANCE IRELAND STATEMENT
30 January, 2020. In relation to the current issue with car lift equipment used in the National Car Test (NCT) which is resulting in motorists being unable to fully complete their NCT and receive an up to date certificate, Insurance Ireland would like to reassure the public that this will not impact their motor insurance and Insurance Ireland members will be pragmatic and understanding in their approach to this issue.

Q1. What does that mean ?
Q2. What are insurers actually doing in practice ?

Does this mean that if our NCT cert is expired, regardless of when it expired, our Insurance is invalidated?
Same question in regard to Motor Tax .

There is no statement by the Govt to clarify this situation. Which is just so inept.

Dependning where you are, and if you need a lift retest.
In some cases, you can't book appointments until long after your NCT has expired. So its out of your hands.
