Nationwide UK Account opening query

Hi All,

This is my first time to open an account where I haven't gone into a bank branch and I a bit confused about these instructions:

"The following documents can be used as proof of name:
A cheque drawn on a Republic of Ireland personal account in the name of the applicant>
AND A photocopy of a current passport OR driving licence (full or provisional) OR EU Identity Card If a personal cheque is not supplied with the application form, a certified copy of a passport OR driving licence OR EU Identity Card is required, signed and stamped by Garda, Bank manager etc"

I will be providing a personal cheque so do I still need to get the passport copy signed?

The wording appears to suggest that you don't need to. That is strange as most AML requirements include a certified copy of passport/ID if the person is not present when opening the account.

Simplest thing is to walk into the branch for the account opening with your passport.

I recently opened a saving account with them, I sent a copy of my passport...then send me a letter saying the account is opened but inactive and asked for a certified copy of the passport to activate it

Thanks for the replies and apologies for the delay with my own. I will send a copy of my passport as it would seem to make sense that they would need it.
