Named driver cover - previous claim

My car was stolen in march, the claim is settled and I just rang my Mams insurance company to get added as a named driver for the weekend. They told me that I have to be claim free for three years before I can added as a named driver. Is this correct? If so what are the grounds, the car was stolen and so what is the risk to them?

If that's what the insurance company said then those are their rules. I suppose they just look at claims, not necessarily the type of claim.

This may sound obvious, but have you pushed this with the insurance company.
As you say, the claim was theft, and not related to your driving. I would ask to speak to a superviser, explain and ask for your case to be reviewed. You might be surprised.

I pushed it and asked to speak to the underwriter and got it sorted .. and there is no charge!
