name on charter airline ticket not exact same as on Passport

Son going to Crete on Friday on a package deal.

The ticket produced by the travel agent only has the initial for his first name.

The travel agent website says
"The name on the passport must match the name on the ticket"

My son called them and they say it does not matter for charter flights.

All suggestions welcome.
