On the opening of the latest stretch of the N9 motorway, Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey had this to say:

"When the final section is completed, it will be possible to travel from the M7/M50 Red Cow junction to Waterford City in approximately 90 minutes"

It's a bit misleading to time your journey from the Red Cow when starting at McDonald's a couple of hundred yards down the road would increase your journey time by a third.

Well you do newlands cross to carlow in an hour, so another half an hour from carlow to waterford? I doubt it.

He's correct, providing you travel at around 2am in the morning, that you'd don't get delayed at Newlands Cross, that no one has got a puncture on the Naas bypass so everyone slows down to have a look, that no one has driven into the back of another car at Rathcoole or Kill and that there are no tractors on the road.

... and no convoys of travellers (can't use the other words, I'll be reprimanded) training / racing sulkies in lanes 1 and 2 between Rathcoole and Newlands X and back as there was around lunch-time yesterday.

... and there is no one travelling in the overtaking lanes even though there is no traffic in the driving lane.
