I am an unemployed 19 year old male and I live at home with my parents.I just completed a computer course back in may and have been seeking employment ever since but have failed to get work over and over again.I am expected to pay rent at home as I am over 18 and rightly so but this is impossible as I have no income what so ever.Am I entitled to any kind of social welfare and how do I go about getting it?Also I have heard if I apply for jobseekers benefit it is means tested. What does this test involve?Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you are unemployed and seeking fulltime work then you can sign for Jobseeker's Allowance. As you are living at home, it will be means-tested on your parents income.

The maximum amount you can qualify for is €100 per week because you're under 20. Note that you may qualify for less than that depending on the means test.

Have a look at www.welfare.ie in the unemployed section for more information on Jobseeker Allowance, and what you'll need to bring when making an application at your nearest SW office.

You need to get yourself down to the local Social Welfare office and sign on immediately. There is a huge backlog in processing Jobseekers Allowance/Benefit applications, so the sooner you sign on, the sooner you'll get some money.
