MS Word: Anyone with experience with indexing?

Hi,
I'm nearing completion of a book (non-fiction, historical research), which requires an index. Had a look at the instructions on WORD 2003, but couldn't make head or tail of it. Anyone on AAM ever had a go at indexing? I know there's a group of professional indexers who would offer their services, but my budget's all tied up for printing/graphic design ... so I'd try to give it a go.

Here's a link to a good guide to indexing with Word 2002. I would expect the process to be very similar in 2003.
